Calorie Deficit

Whether we like it or not, the basic fact of the matter is that if we eat less and move more, we will shed those pounds. The best way to get your eating in line with this philosophy is to reduce the number of calories you consume per day.

You need to eat 3500 calories less a week to lose one pound of fat. So that works out at a reduction of your diet of 500 calories a day. That is if you diet is stabilised, and you are neither gaining or losing weight.

So for women 2000 approx is a stabilised calorie intake, so eating 1500 a day will be enough to lose 1lb a week. 1 lb a week doesn’t seem that much, and many people want at least 2lb, but 1lb is a safe and measured weight loss.

Planning Your Meals

When aiming for a calorie deficit, it helps to plan and prep your meals in advance. Not only does it help you to get organised and cook healthy options, but it also allows you to know that you have plenty of food and won’t go hungry, giving you a psychological advantage.

You can choose to batch cook meals and snacks once a week. Then refrigerate or freeze to keep them fresh. It’s essential to factor snacks into your meal plan. It’s quite usual to get hungry between meals whether you are dieting or not, so it helps to have a healthy option to select. This will stop you reaching for a bag of chips or a candy bar to satisfy your craving.

Exercise

To increase your weight loss from one to 2lb a week you will need to be in deficit at least another 500 calories a day. That is where exercise comes in. Luckily, there is a whole range of activities that you can do to burn 500 calories a day to get skinny.

However, some people feel self-conscious about exercising in public. Solve this by getting some home gym equipment and build up your confidence before you take your work out to the public. There are lots of new products out that help you to exercise at home. Currently, kettlebells are popular and check the treadmill trends, to see which one would work best for you and your home.

If you don’t mind exercise in public, then there are loads of different activities that you can do to try and burn the extra calories off. You can join a sports team like Roller Derby, or go to a Zumba class with friends. If that’s not your thing, try swimming for 61 mins or running interval sprints for 24 mins which will burn 500 calories. Check here for a more accurate estimation based on weight.
