Let’s talk about Healthy Foods

Now, I am not talking about foods that make you unrealistically thin in the name of weight loss diet, or foods that deprive you the Joy that comes from eating. I think the ability to enjoy nutritious food is one of the best gift God gave to humans.
Before a food can be termed healthy, it must meet up certain criteria.
One of such criteria is been nutrient dense, Nutrient-dense foods are foods that have a lot of nutrients but relatively few calories.
The sad thing is this, there are always conflicting advice from so called experts on healthy foods. A common example is what we see on food labels. Low fat, low carb, low calorie, soon it will be low food. (sighs)
Contrary to the low ‘everything’ we see on food labels, a Healthy food = Consuming a variety of real, whole, unrefined foods that are provided to us by nature. This includes plenty of fresh produce as well as humanely raised animal products, wild caught seafood, nuts/seeds, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
The need to include whole grains in your diet cannot be over emphasized. Whole grains are rich in fiber, which helps in balancing the cholesterol level of the body. Typical examples of whole grains are whole wheat, brown rice, oat meal.
Healthy foods are foods that will never cause you any health complications, whether immediately, or in near future. They are foods with functional characteristics, i.e. foods that have the ability to cure a disease in the body or improve the overall well-being of a person.
Healthy foods are not hard to come by, they are not expensive, in fact, and they might just be right in front of you. Start eating healthy today!
